Weeping Replaced by Joy: Psalm 30:5

Psalm 30:5b …weeping may be for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

Just as tears often take one by surprise, so does God’s joy by the Spirit. Jesus said to the woman with a bucket of water at the well, “…the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14) That’s the Holy Spirit. He comes at the most unlikely moments, unbidden, welling up inside into a fountain of joy. What happens to the situation that caused the tears? Does it go away? Maybe, maybe not, but joy overwhelms the tears; and while pain does not last forever, joy in Christ is eternal.
