then crashes again

in a can do nothing state of immobility

sleeping

Stranded without my car keys

a bagful of heavy canned goods

and fresh meat

Dear friend who canceled

our weekly breakfast

because I was coughing

arrived in less than twenty minutes

to carry me home and back

with my spare set

now that’s a beautiful sight for sick eyes

Beauty Day 157 Day 10

I’d be lying if I said the most beautiful part of the day

was anything other than reading Psalm 130

Psalms in this little book are arranged in groups of 5

I find them all related Psalms 10, 40, 70, 100 and 130

By the time I got to this 5th psalm

the Lord was speaking directly to my heart

about my situation in him

and his great love and provision for me

in Christ

same as for all those Old Testament and New Testament believers

who believe in him in God

and place their hope and trust where it rightfully belongs

It was a good quiet day

the car remained parked

I barely left the house

while restfully attempting to stave off

the coughing cold I picked up from family

during my recent visit

a very perfect kind of quiet restful day

in which lots of big stuff happened

because I made time to listen

and didn’t allow other news to distract me

Beauty Day 156 Cheese/Spinach Puffs

My son is in the habit of baking

what he likes to call Gruyere Puffs–

“there’s gruyeres over there”

when what he means is two pans full–

to celebrate the weekend

And when family is there

it’s a double whammy

family and weekend combined

I’d forgotten this

and when on Tuesday

I baked what I planned on Monday

and even shopped for

Gruyere cheese and frozen spinach

I didn’t understand

what made me think I had

that kind of time on a weekday?

and then I remembered

ah yes…

I left my heart back where family lives

and this was a way

to bring them close again

and so family traditions are started

remembered

relived

throughout generations

Ever hear of “mom’s favorite apple pie?”

well now I know why

silent guardian of Seattle

so large it dominates

any nearby horizon

seldom shows its face

its fullness most often lying hidden

At goodbye time today

it came to wave me away

in full revelation of its splendor

and stand at signal salute

until the plane carrying me home

had disappeared into the sky
