The air was clear

the goal unobstructed

the timing perfect

and those bushes needed a trimming

I got out the electric saw

I had purchased for myself

and began swoosh

swoosh swooshing

mindful of my legs

and toes especially

and where I’m holding my hands

one down

another down

yes! I’m still strong

I’ll take that last one down

Wow!

What a sense of empowerment

to trim my own bushes

with my own electric trimming saw

just when they need it most

and there it is–job done

Lists!

Having noticed the other day

that if it’s on the list

I tend more to do it

–except for the most excruciating tasks

those with the largest mental resistance–

and if not on the list

I remain in a prolonged state of frozen distraction 

I came to realize

this late in life

that it’s best for me to write

a long list of all the things that’d make me happier

if I accomplished them “today”

today was one of those days

after two days of basically nothing but rest

I slowly creakingly with prayer got started

gaining momentum as I went

and now I have a beautiful list

of checked-off items and

on my favorite topic

the hot tea was good

the water cool and refreshing

the book great

but mainly it was the fire

sput-sput-sputtering warm flames

that captured me

and healed my soul
