Chesebro in December

Signs of life abound in this oak dominated canyon that features a seasonal creek running through it. Ravens, deer, coyotes, and even mountain lions make appearances here. This oak tree is an “acorn granary” for woodpeckers. The granary is a community resource, and the trees chosen vary from year to year, as the birds abandon previously used granaries and sometimes make new.

Palo Comado/China Flat/Sheep Corral Trail/Chesebro Canyon Loop

The loop from the lower parking lot at Chesebro Canyon up Palo Comado Canyon to China Flat, back down to Sheep Corral Trail, and down Chesebro Canyon is between 10 and 12 miles. The canyons tend to be hotter than the weather stations report, as there are no stations in the park. Palo Comado Canyon is gorgeous!
